The Republic of Ecuador is a representative democratic
republic in South America and got its name from the fact that it
is right on the equator.
Its capital is Quito and its largest city is Guayaquil.
Ecuador stretches over 256,371 square kilometers of land and includes
the Galapagos Islands, who got their name from the giant turtles
living there.
The population of Ecuador was in 2007 estimated to
13,755,680.
